Frequently Asked Questions And Answers

1. Why choose the Odyssey Village over any other program?

Odyssey has a proven program that has changed thousand of lives across the world. The program was developed in the early sixties by a psychiatrist who believed that addiction could be cured by behavior modification.

2.? Does Odyssey accept residents without insurance?

Odyssey has an open door policy. We are mission driven to save lives. The village depends on the donations of Odyssey partners to serve whomever comes through our doors and requests help. If you have the desire to change, Odyssey has a place for you!

3. Can my children live with me if I enter the program?

Yes, your children may live with you on site. We have trained professionals who also work with your children to break the cycle of addiction. Odyssey is licensed for children (infants to age 17). The licensed childcare facility is on the Odyssey campus.

4. What should I bring with me?

We are a residential program therefore you will be provided with three nutritional dietary meals. You should bring clothing for one week. The facility has laundry facilities on site.

5. Will I be allowed visitors once I enter the program?

You will be allowed visitors, once your personal therapist has did your initial assessment and your individual behavioral modification sobriety program has been established.

6. Why is it called the Odyssey Village?

The village concept stems from the need to offer residents a comprehensive and holistic form of treatment. It creates a focus on an extended family approach rather than your typical therapeutic community.

7. Who does the Odyssey Village serve?

Our residents are very diverse culturally, economically, and politically. The Odyssey concept was designed to be inclusive not exclusive. Each person no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, or economic background, brings their own unique talent and story to the village. Odyssey believes each resident must have an opportunity to create, develop, and invest in the community, without prejudice. It is our hope that the Odyssey Village will serve as an example for the world to follow.

8. What is a therapeutic community?

A therapeutic community is a value-based treatment program that focuses on total, multi-dimensional change (character development behavior modification program) The therapeutic community can be summed up as a "view of right living" with emphasis on sobriety and rehabilitation. It creates a comprehensive support system or extended family to meet the needs of residents to simulate real-life experiences in a structured incubator environment.

9. How long is the program?

The Odyssey Program is an Odyssey in itself. The program is a long-term residential program, that averages six to twelve months. Each resident has to buy into their individualized program, their own Odyssey. Each resident is different on how long they will remain in the program. Each resident through open-confrontation, peer to peer group support with a highly trained staff must make a personal comittment to their recovery. How long or how fast a person completes the program depends on each individuals determination and perserverance to take their individual Odyssey. Many residents choose to utilize the extensive outpatient program after 30 days. Others choose a longer program in order to develop a permanent longterm life-style change of sobriety.

10. What other services does the Odyssey Village offer?

The Odyssey Program offers clinical rehabilitation, job readiness skills, tutorial and ged preparation, computer classes, spiritual meditation, life skill management, recreational activities, and many other sobriety-living educational skills.
